Newport star drawing early attention
The Oregon coast is not frequently visited by FBS division coaches scouting talent but this year things may be different. Newport, OR is home to 6-foot-2, 195 pound three sport standout Oshay Dunmore and he has caught the eye of some big time schools. Dunmore claims early interest from Oregon, Alabama, Virginia Tech and others. Duck Sports Authority met with Dunmore after his basketball team logged a 30 point victory over the opposing team to see how his recruitment is going.
"It's going pretty smooth so far. I'm trying to find a school that will let me do both football and track as well as meet my academic needs," said Dunmore. "So far it's going good though. I'm just trying to think about it and not be in too much of a rush. I've got another year of everything to do so I'm just trying to live my life as a kid but still be focused with everything."
Dunmore competes for Newport high school in football, basketball and track and is accomplished in all three sports. His junior year Dunmore rushed for over 2,000 yards and 26 TDs as well as adding almost another 1,000 yards passing and another 7 TDs. His basketball team has been ranked as high as #1 in the state in 4A and is headed to the state playoffs and he is the two-time defending state champion in the discus in track. Make no mistake about it, Dunmore is an athlete.
As for his direction in college Dunmore told DSA he has yet to receive his first offer but he is in no hurry.
"Right now I've got Oregon, who is recruiting me pretty heavily, and I recently got in contact with Alabama, Virginia Tech, Boise State as well as Washington State and Oregon State. Those are kind of the top schools right now that have shown the most interest.
"I've got to contact the Oregon coaches myself and they seem pretty interested so I'm pretty confident there will be something coming up soon."
