Pre-spring unit analysis: Wide Receivers
The wide receiver group entered the 2011 season more or less decimated from the year before losing starters Jeff Maehl and D.J. Davis to graduation and the NFL. The lone returning player with starting experience was Lavasier Tuinei, and Josh Huff also had some snaps the prior year.
Early in the 2011 season the Ducks were a running team, and much of that was personnel-driven. The running back group was talented, experienced and deep. The wide receiver group was talented but very inexperienced.
2011 unit grade: 2.56 (0 to 4) The wide receiver group ended the season as the lowest rated unit, as would be expected rebuilding two-thirds of the two-deep. What saved this group from a far-lower season rating was their off-ball play such as blocking, which by the end of the season was quite good.
