Pre-spring unit analysis: Quarterback
The Oregon Ducks entered the 2011 in good hands. Darron Thomas was returning following an outstanding sophomore campaign as the starter, and Encino freshman Bryan Bennett was on hand to learn the ropes from the veterans including senior Nate Costa.
Bennett was able to retain his redshirt year despite an injury to Costa towards the end of the season.
2011 unit grade: 3.11 (0 to 4) With Darron Thomas back as starter this unit would expect to grade out well for the season and it did. Thomas ended the year with 211 completions on 339 attempts with 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions, contributing the vast bulk of the group grade. Thomas started 13 of Oregon's 14 games, missing the Colorado game in the middle of the season due to injury.
2011 improvement trend: 7 of 8 Not the highest improvement rate on the team but still a positive slope for the season, as was the case for all units in 2011. This result is in line with expectations from a unit that returned all of its starters.
