Two-sport star likes Freeze's tempo
Jeremy Johnson spent Tuesday at Ole Miss, checking out Hugh Freeze's up-tempo offense, visiting with Murphy Holloway and getting a feel for life in Oxford.
The trip went well, as the 6-foot-6 pro-style quarterback/small forward plans to return to Ole Miss for the Rebels' annual Grove Bowl game on April 21.
However, Ole Miss has plenty of work to do _ as well as some stiff competition to overcome _ if it plans to land Johnson's signature.
After his day in Oxford, Johnson said the Rebels are now "third" behind Auburn and LSU, but Ole Miss has a chance.
"It went good," Johnson said. "We toured the campus when I first got there. It's a beautiful campus, maybe the best one I've been to so far. The practice went well. I liked the up-tempo practice they had. I just like the tempo. It's no huddle and it's fast."
Johnson, who picked up an Ole Miss offer in December, hasn't yet met Rebel hoops coach Andy Kennedy, but he spent some of Tuesday talking with Holloway, who is expected back for his senior season at Ole Miss.
"We were just walking around, talking, having a little friendly conversation," Johnson said.
Johnson said he's developed a relationship with Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze, adding that there was no hard sell on Tuesday. Instead, "he and I weren't talking about much, for real. I was just asking a lot of questions.
He said I could fit in because I can pass and run and do the zone-read. He said he didn't mind me playing both sports."
Johnson said he won't make a decision until much closer to the start of the signing period in February. He said the decision will not be difficult to make.
