Ruston High product and Tech commitment talks Tech
Jon'al White has had an interesting journey that has ultimately landed him geographically full circle and back in Ruston, La. White was a talented defensive tackle at Ruston High School, but academically was not going to clear the NCAA clearing house. As a result, he took his abilities to Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Ms.
During Jon'al's freshman year at Jones, he had 47 tackles and 3 sacks. During his sophomore season, which ended this past Saturday, he had 45 tackles and 3.5 sacks while being double teamed most of the year.
These performances caught the eye of coaches from many conferences including the SEC and Big XII. Jon'al is determined to play closer to his family and "get back home" as he put it.
After he committed to Louisiana Tech, the phone really started ringing off the hook for White. But he remains firm to his commitment to Tech and is excited to come home. White will graduate from Jones in December and enroll in Louisiana Tech for the spring quarter. One reason White committed to Tech he said is, "Coach [Stan] Eggen is a really good coach and I'm really excited to play for him."
White will have the chance to come in and compete right away for a starting job for the bulldogs. White says one of his strengths is his ability to be a leader.
White's strengths are his physical strength and quickness. His max bench press he says is 455 pounds and max squat 610 pounds. He runs the 40 in 4.9.
Over and over White kept reiterating how he was ready get home. Welcome home to Ruston, Jon'al White.
