December 2, 2012The Oregon Ducks men's basketball team hosted the Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Saturday at Mathew Knight Arena and came away with an 80-59 win. The Ducks are currently 9-1 with five games remaining in their preseason schedule.
The Ducks got off to an early start and kept the Golden Lions to only 2 points in the first five minutes of the game. Oregon's style of defense seemed to trouble the Lions.
The Ducks did a great job getting in the passing line and causing turnovers. Everyone in an Oregon uniform was getting after the rebounds which was the reason why they were able to rack up 11 points from second chance opportunities.
Although Oregon came out strong, after a couple of time outs, the Golden Lions managed to keep themselves in the game by going on a 14-2 run late in the 1st half. Arkansas cut Oregon's lead from 17 down to 7 before heading into the locker room.
The Golden Lions weren't able to continue their run at the start of the second half. The Ducks were able to maintain the lead through out the entire game because of their rebounding and ability to drive to the basket. They managed to get 46 points in the paint and out rebounded Arkansas 40 to 21.
Head coach, Dana Altman, though the win, was not happy with the way the Ducks played.
"Tonight we just were not fundamentally sound. We made a lot of mistakes. This team has a tremendous amount of potential but we have to sharpen a lot of things up in order to get closer to where I want to be."
Next, the Ducks are hosting Idaho State in Mathew Knight Arena on Saturday, December 8th at 3 pm (pst).
