January 11, 2013The Oregon Ducks pulled off a 70-66 upset against the No. 3 Arizona Wildcats at Matt Arena in Eugene, Oregon tonight.
Oregon came out cold to start the game, but soon got their rhythm after a couple of big plays and the help of the 9,544 Oregon fans. The amount of energy in Matt Knight arena was high and the volume the loudest it has been all season. The floors trembled with excitement from the fans.
Arizona struggled to score in the paint but did drain from behind the arc. The Ducks began to drill their three's after their slow start, hitting 50% in the first half and adding six steals.
Oregon made the most out of their fast break opportunities. Towards the end of the first half it started to look like a wrestling match with the physicality on both sides.
Starting the second half Oregon did a great job holding their lead with huge dunks and deep threes, firing the crowd back up from halftime. For the game, the Ducks shot 63.6% from downtown.
Dominic Artis was outstanding from behind the arc, shooting 3 of 4 with 10 points. E.J Singler had a huge game with 14 points 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
"The fans were unbelievable in this game," Singler said. "I feel like they made the difference."
Even though the Ducks had a great win, Altman made one thing clear.
"January 10th isn't the end of our season. It's the beginning."
This game will put the Ducks on the national map as they extended their home winning streak to 17 victories
