February 22, 2013The Ducks set out for revenge after losing to the Bears in Cal, only to be upset once again with a game winning jump shot 48-46 at Matt Arena on Thursday night.
Oregon couldn't make any plays happen let alone do the basic pick in roll in the first 5 minutes, while on the other side of the court Cal easily penetrated Oregon's defense with cuts and pick and rolls. After a few big plays to get the fans on their feet the Ducks slowly started to wind down and pre game jitters diminished.
But it still wasn't enough to take down the bears. Oregon shot only shot 27.6% while Cal shot 40.8%.
"That's really a disappointing loss," Dana Altman sais. "Guys worked really hard but you got to hit shots. (Kazemi) was unbelievable on the boards. I thought he played really hard."
Kazemi dominated the boards with 18 boards, 11 points and had a large physical presence throughout the game.
"It is what it is, I have to bring that kind of energy every night," Kazemi said.
E.J Singler contributed 7 points and 7 boards.
"We just didn't hit shots collectively, and we'll have to do better," Singler said. "We got to brush this loss off and get ready for Stanford."
The crowd's energy directly correlates with the Ducks performance. As the crowd gets fired up so do the players. They'll need more consistent play, if they want to survive on the road especially with Artis still out with no set date of his return.
The Ducks have a lot to work to do on Saturday against Stanford. Tip-off is at 5:00 pm at Matt Knight.
