Pre-spring unit analysis: Tight End

The Oregon tight end group looked to be in good hands going into 2011. Malachi Lewis was the lone player in the unit graduating with David Paulson, Brandon Williams and promising youngster Curtis White coming back.

Things did not work out quite like that for tight ends coach Tom Osborne. Brandon Williams had to retire before the season started, and Curtis White battled injuries throughout his redshirt freshmen year.

2011 unit grade: 3.03 (0 to 4) The reason the tight end group was rated as the third-highest amongst the offense and defense groups was largely thanks to the play of David Paulson. Paulson accounted for 31 catches for 438 yards and six touchdowns. The contributions of true freshman Colt Lyerla cannot be denied however.
