CANTON, Ohio - So far, so good for Bri'onte Dunn and his Canton GlenOak teammates as the Golden Eagles downed Akron Firestone, 35-17 on Thursday night to open their season. The Ohio State commit finished his season opener with 27 carries for more than 130 yards and a touchdown, a strong start for one of the early favorites for Mr. Football.

"I thought we performed real good," said Dunn. "A lot of people were getting cramps out here so we need to do better with hydrating and eating bananas and stuff but overall I thought we played good. I think we played as a team and I think we probably need to finish stronger in the second half."

Dunn battled cramps throughout the second half which limited his carries and his overall effectiveness but with his team building a 35-3 lead, there wasn't much need for his services. The fast start was just what Dunn and company were hoping for.

"That's what we were planning to do, was beat them in the first half," he explained. "We were trying to get our starters some rest in the second half and get them ready for the Massillon Tigers (next Thursday)."

Dunn battled a nagging hamstring injury over the summer but says he is feeling no ill effects from that injury and simply was cramping up in the second half. Overall, Dunn says he feels strong and healthy.

"I'm good right now," he said. "It was just a little Charlie Horse, we just need to hydrate better. I feel pretty strong right now."

After the game, Dunn once again re-affirmed his commitment to Ohio State and also says that he currently does not have any official plans for making any unofficial visits either to Ohio State or any other schools.

Analysis:

Dunn looked outstanding as usual in the first half of the blowout win and the only thing that could stop him was some second half cramping. Dunn's burst and agility were as good as ever on Thursday and once his feet get moving he is an absolute load to bring down. Overall, this was just another in the long line of impressive performances by this workhorse back as he embarks on a potential record-breaking season.

On the recruiting front, Dunn seems as solid to Ohio State as he has been in months but the rumors and speculation will likely swirl all the way until National Signing Day.
