Wake to entertain Alford Saturday

Brenden Alford will be the big man on campus at Wake Forest, well at least for Saturday anyway.

His mother will be accompanying him for the Junior Day visit to Wake. It will be Alford's first time on campus.

"I'm really looking forward to their Junior Day, because I haven't gotten to look at any schools yet," Alford said. "I [want] to learn about how they function and about their atmosphere, and what the personality of the school is."

Wake Forest has offered the 6-foot-4, 320-pound offensive tackle, while Clemson, NC State and South Carolina have shown interest.

The Demon Deacons began showing interest in the big lineman after sophomore season. Jonathan Himebauch is recruiting him for the Deacs.

Alford said Wake came to two or three of his games last season.

Last December he transferred to Wade Hampton in Greenville, SC after helping Dillon (SC) advance to the fourth round of the state playoffs and a 12-1 record. Alford appears to be settling in well.

"It's been pretty good," Alford said. "The people down here are pretty nice. It's a lot bigger than where I'm from. It's a lot more busy, a lot more stuff to do here."

His new coach told him he will see some action on the defensive line along with his duties as an offensive tackle.

Alford said his mobility and ability to get leverage on defenders helps him as a blocker.

He will throw the discus and shot-put this spring for Wade Hampton's Track and Field team.
