Major Recruits Watch UAB Opening Practice

The UAB Blazers opened practice Friday night for the 2007-08 season with a spirited two hour practice. Eight new players joined five holdovers from last year's Blazer squad that finished 15-16 and tied for eighth in Conference USA. This year's team has already produced a lot of excitement and some high expectations. The Blazers were recently predicted to finish second in the conference at the C-USA media days.

Beyond the excitement on the floor, there was quiet a bit of excitement in the arena about the 2009 recruits who were watching in the stands. Some of the top players in the nation stopped by Bartow Arena to see the Mike Davis and the Blazer's first official practice of the season.

DeMarcus Cousins, a five-star recruit and the fifth best player in the 2009 class, was one of the visitors. Lorenzo Brown, a four-star recruit from Centennial High in Alpharetta, Georgia was in attendance as well. Brown, ranked the eighth best point guard and 42nd best prospect overall in the class of '09, was joined by teammate Robbie Johnson and his coach, Allen Whitehart.
