Triche talks commitment
Dewitt (NY) Jamesville-Dewitt combo guard Brandon Triche ended his recruiting this week as he pcked Syracuse over Georgetown and Connecticut. CuseConfiedential caught up with Triche last night to talk about his commitment.
Triche, 6-foot-4, 210 pounds grew up with the Syracuse Orange since he lived in the city and his uncle Howard Triche was a member of the Orange. It was the familiarity of the school and being close to home that made the Orange more special than any other school.
"I am a guy that likes to be away from home, but I like to be home at the same time. Syracuse, being in Syracuse I will be home, but I will be away from home because I will be on campus or at my apartment. Georgetown , that is like eight hours from Syracuse, so I just can't go home. Also with Jonny probably playing for the draft the point guard spot is open and even if he doesn't go I will be able to learn from him."
Syracuse is always one of the top programs for basketball attendance and it's the idea of playing in front of a lot of fans that the three star prospect likes.
"I guess just playing in front of a lot of fans. I think they average about 18,000 fans depending how good the team is. It is going to be very exciting there is a lot of young talent and a lot of good upper-classmen, so it should be a good opportunity for me."
The local product likes the idea of playing in front of a big crowd, but his main goal will be to help his team get back to the NCAA Tournament.
"I want to win basketball games and help the team get out of the NIT and into the NCAA tournament. The last two years they were in the NIT and I just want to help them prevent that."
Being so close to the campus gives Triche a chance to visit his future school and teammates when ever he gets a chance and he plans on taking full advantage of that.
"Not yet, but I think Saturday at the football homecoming. I think a lot of them are going to the football game. I also think they are running a pick up game tomorrow, so I might run with them."
Even though Triche is going to play basketball at the same school his uncle did, he failed to call him and tell him the news. The older Triche found out the old fashioned way.
"He left me a message. I think he found out by the newspaper I didn't actually call him. When he called me he just said congratulations and it is a great place and I know you will do good."
When all was said and done however it was the coaching at Syracuse that put them over the top.
"The main thing coming into the recruiting process was why shouldn't I go to SU and the reason why I should go to SU is the same reason why Jim Boeheim and Bernie Fine said I should go to SU. Mike Hopkins is a guy who will be there for you anytime of day if you need help."
Last but not least Triche talked about what kind of player the Orange fans will see in the coming years.
"They are getting a smart player a player with a high I.Q. and overall a good point guard."
