Speedy junior likes Gamecocks

Miami (FL) Gulliver Prep WR Tacoi Sumler is one of the state of Florida's top playmakers for the Class of 2011, and a host of schools have taken notice of his talents.

Among the many major programs showing interest is South Carolina, who was actually the first program to extend a verbal tender to Sumler.

"South Carolina was the first school to offer," the 5-foot-8 speedster told GamecockCentral.com. "Steve Spurrier is a great coach. I know that their program is on the uprising and is already one of the bets. They are a well-known school. They want me to be a playmaking receiver."

The Sunshine State native talked about the other programs that are after him at this point.

"Ole Miss and Tulane have also offered," he said. "FSU, Tennessee, Clemson, Southern Cal, and FIU are also showing interest. FIU, FSU, and Tennessee are saying that I've pretty much got the offer, that they are just waiting for the right time."

Though his mailbox is filling with letters and questionnaires, Sumler is still staying focused on his upcoming campaign.

"We have our preseason classic coming up on Friday. We play Parkway and it's really like a real game. We've been practicing hard trying to get ready for the season."

Sumler is recovering from a minor injury, but says he is ready to compete now.

"I tweaked something in my hip, maybe like a bone bruise. I just wanted to make sure I was 100% but I'm back out there now."

The Gamecocks, among others, want the talented athlete to have the ball in his hands; something at which Sumler says he excels.

"That's what I'm known for, making big plays," he says. "I don't care where I play as long as I get on the field."

Sumler said that he had no early leaders, but does have in mind what he will be looking for in a program.

"Location and education are the biggest ones, basically," he said. "I want the school to have the classes I want. I want to major in business and finance. Facilities and playing time are important also."
