Preseason: Ducks soar in polls

Oregon football has come a long way. After winning the Rose Bowl over Wisconsin to cap the 2011 season, the Ducks suffered the loss of two key juniors to early departure when LaMichael James and Darron Thomas made their decisions. For many teams that would set the stage for a disastrous following season.

Not the case for the Oregon Ducks.

Despite losing their starting quarterback and tailback in addition to all the normal attrition through graduation, the Ducks seem poised to make another run at a BCS game and perhaps even a national championship.

Below is a table showing the various preseason predictions and their composite average:

As shown above, the Pac-12 has four teams in the preseason composite.

Coming in at the #1 spot is USC, who the #5 Ducks play on November 3rd in Los Angeles in a game that many predict will be a preview of the Pac-12 championship game.

The other Pac-12 team predicted to be in the Top-25 is Stanford, coming in at #19. The Ducks play the Cardinal at home on November 17th, the week prior to Oregon's regular season finale against the Beavers.

The Washington Huskies rounded out the tail of the group at #30.

Duck Sports Authority subscribers overall tend to agree with the national experts. In a recent poll, DSA members weighed in on the question, arriving at an aggregate preseason ranking of 5.25.

While polls mean little and early polls less, by-and-large it is better to be ranked than not when it comes to Bowl time. If the pundits are correct, the Ducks will be in yet another BCS game in January.
