Ducks pull away for exhibition win
Oregon came out to a slow start in the first half and didn't look that sharp on defense of their final exhibition game of the year. Still, they came away with a 68-52 win.
"We didn't play with much energy in the first half," said Altman. "A lot of adjustments need to be made."
Shooting only 35% in the first half, the Ducks struggled to make plays.
"We need shot makers not shot takers," said Altman.
Oregon had a different energy and intensity going into the second half. Everyone seemed to be more aggressive, fighting for boards and being more physical down in the paint. They had 8 blocks 3 from Carter, Elgin Cook and Austin Waverly both with 2 and Amardi with 1.
The Ducks crashed the boards more efficiently, getting after the ball. On Wednesday the players and Altman expressed some of their concerns about their lack of rebounding presence and transition defense. Oregon ended with 45 rebounds, out-rebounding Point Loma both offensively and defensively. Oregon picked up their Defense as well holding Point Loma to 17.2% from the field, and 9.1% from beyond the arc.
"We picked it up in the second half but as a whole we didn't have a good game,"
With a challenging game ahead the Ducks have to pick up the effort and bring the energy and intensity from the beginning.
Joseph Young had another impressive game with 21 points and 6 boards. Senior Austin Waverly came in with a double double 16 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. Damyean Dotson and Mike Moser didn't get to see the floor; Altman had them resting for the long trip and difficult game ahead.
Ducks fly to South Korea to Camp Humphreys next Friday to face off against Georgetown. Coverage will be on ESPN 5:00 pm PT November 8th.
