Ducks land local QB

Oregon recruiting surprised its followers last night when Eugene (Ore.) Sheldon quarterback Justin Herbert announced via social media his commitment to the Ducks.

It's been a dream of mine growing up, and I'm excited to announce my commitment to the University of Oregon๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿˆ- Justin Herbert (@Justin_Herbert5) October 9, 2015
After all, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound prospect is currently unranked and was a relatively unknown commodity whose only other offers were from Montana State, Northern Arizona and Portland State, hardly teams the Ducks normally compete with in recruiting.
But the Oregon staff has been scouting Hebert closely and he has been having a strong season for the Sheldon Irish (3-1), their only loss coming against No. 1 Jesuit in an overtime barnburner 61-55. On the season he has thrown 14 TD's against 2 INT's with a completion percentage of 63.6. He has also rushed for 226 yards and 4 TD's through their first four games.
With a prototypical pro-style frame coupled with above average scrambling ability, Herbert will join fellow Oregon quarterback commits Del City (Okla.) Terry Wilson and Allen (Tex.) Seth Green as members of the Ducks' class of 2016.
The addition of Herbert will definitely have some ripple effects on Oregon's projected QB roster. With four returning scholarship players from this year's team joined by three freshmen, the Ducks would have seven total athletes under QB scholarship for 2016 fall camp, two in excess of their target of five. Between now and then something will certainly change.
Herbert becomes the 14th member of Oregon's class of 2016 meaning the Ducks are about two-thirds complete for the year. Stay tuned to Duck Sports Authority as we bring you the latest in recruiting and the best of analysis.
