Ducks land Rivals100 athlete

Everybody would like to sign a Rivals100 athlete. So why not two? Oregon football recruiting hit an upswing on Monday when Jaylon Redd announced via social media his intention to sign with the Ducks.

"I picked the Ducks because I enjoy the family-orientated environment that they surround me with, the coaching staff has been there for a while," Redd told DSA following his commitment. "They are surrounding me with successful people, great coaches, great fans and a great opportunity to show what I can do."

Ranked as the No. 4 athlete in the nation, Redd chose Oregon over a final eight of Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, Michigan and Nebraska. He joins Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian ATH Deommodore Lenoir as members of the prestigious Rivals100 committed to the Ducks.

With the addition of Redd the Oregon recruiting class vaulted from No. 41 to No. 36 nationally. He is the twelfth member of their Class of 2017, the fifth four-star.

At Oregon Redd looks to fit into the mold of a Charles Nelson; a Swiss Army knife of an athlete who can play defensive back, receiver or special teams.

“I want to do anything that will get me playing time my freshman year,” Redd told Duck Sports Authority of his position preference.

Redd is not the only prospect from Rancho Cucamonga squarely on the Ducks’ radar. Cornerback Thomas Graham is another recruit near the top of their board. Could the two both end up in Eugene?

“I wouldn’t doubt it. I can’t say that it is going to happen but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did happen.”

Stay tuned to Duck Sports Authority as Oregon recruiting for the Class of 2017 hits the halfway mark and things heat up on and off the field.
