Forsyth focused on State Championship, not coaching questions

West Linn (13-0) lineman Alex Forsyth is focused on one thing right now and it is not the coaching uncertainty surrounding his future team. On Saturday Forsyth and his teammates take on Central Catholic (10-3) in the State 6A Championship game after trouncing their first four playoff opponents.

So as Oregon fans, recruits and other interested parties wait eagerly as decisions are made regarding the future leadership of Duck football, the nation’s No. 23-ranked offensive tackle prospect is focused on preparing for the Central Catholic Rams.

“Our mindset is to just come ready to play and have a great week of practice,” said Forsyth. “CC is the best team we will play and we need to be physical and win in the trenches.”

In those trenches is where the four-star rated prospect will be found on Saturday, starting both ways on the offensive line and at defensive tackle for the Lions.

For undefeated West Linn it has been the constant high from winning and playing well. Oregon has been less fortunate.

“Every program has their ups and downs,” said Forsyth. “The team was plagued with injuries across the board and you can only do so much with the depth they had.”

When Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich and Athletic Director Rob Mullens meet midweek, decisions will likely be announced soon after.

“If they shook up the staff then that's their choice,” said Forsyth. “I'm 100% committed and plan to keep it that way. However, I do think that people are over reacting over one season.”

As a football prospect of Rivals250 caliber, Forsyth obviously had numerous colleges pursuing him with dozens of offers from all corners of the country. When he committed in June they did not completely stop their efforts. Even so, Duck coaches, whoever they turn out to be, can be confident Forsyth will report for duty with the rest of his class.

“Other schools message me all the time,” said Forsyth. “I just tell them I'm 100% committed.”
