Four-star LB picks Ducks

Oregon recruiting is on a roll in June adding their fourth commitment of the month on Wednesday when San Diego (Calif.) Madison LB Sampson Niu celebrated his birthday by making his college choice announcement live on local news station KUSI.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound four-star prospect chose the Ducks over 30 other scholarship offers. His reasoning was simple; it felt right.

“Ever since I went on an unofficial visit there I loved it,” said Niu. “The coaches gave me a different kind of vibe, especially coach Pellum. He is a really good dude.

“A lot of the coaches have been there for a long time, over 20 years. That is why I did it.”

And did the flash of the multitude of equipment styles play a role?

“Having a bunch of uniforms, a bunch of stuff is because NIKE is a big part there,” said Niu. “It is pretty cool but I am mostly going to put in work, trying to get a national championship.”

Another of the Ducks’ current commits also hails from the San Diego area, running back C.J. Verdell, the first player committed to Oregon’s class of 2017.

“C.J. is my boy,” said Niu. “I played with him when we went up to Florida eighth grade year for the National Championship there. He is a really good dude.”

Niu is the first linebacker and the sixth player overall committed to this class for the Ducks.
