Oregon lands Chandler WR

Oregon football’s weekend got slightly better on Sunday after a hurtful loss to Stanford on Saturday. Chandler (Ariz.) wide receiver Johnny Johnson decided to flip his pledge from UNLV to the Ducks, becoming the 14th overall commit and the first wideout.

“I see a big opportunity for me at Oregon and I feel I can get to my highest potential as a student and ball player at the school,” said Johnson after his social media announcement. “The coaches have shown lots of interest in me and have done a great job recruiting me.”

Having been committed to UNLV he did have the one difficult phone call to make.

“It was how any one would expect that phone call to be,” Johnson recalled. “Sort of a hard situation but they understand that i had to take the best opportunity for myself and my family.”

Prior to his public announcement he let the Oregon staff know of his decision.

“I called Coach Lubick the wide receiver and offensive coordinator for Oregon,” said Johnson. “He was very excited and fired up to hear that I am committing. He said he can’t wait to coach me.”

Johnson tells DSA that Oregon will be his only official visit and that it will be in early December.
