SAN ANTONIO — Earlier in the year Austin Novosad believed he would be staying close to home and playing his college football in Waco at Baylor. Instead, Oregon decided to throw that plan off course by hiring Will Stein as its next offensive coordinator once Kenny Dillingham left to become the head coach at Arizona State.

Not signing with Baylor would be something the Rivals100 quarterback would have to come to grips with once Stein was announced as the pick in Eugene. The standout four-star recruit from Dripping Springs, Texas had been committed to the Bears for nearly a year, and he had built strong relationships with the coaching staff there.

"We had to make a quick trip, but I'm glad we went up there [to Oregon]," Novosad said Tuesday after finishing up his second practice at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio. "Ultimately it was the spot for me. It was hard to break those relationships with Baylor, but I gotta go where I gotta go."

Novosad feels a special connection to Oregon's new offensive coordinator, and that ultimately pushed him to at least hear an in-person pitch from the Ducks late in the cycle.

"Oregon came in at the last minute," he said. "Got up there and went on a visit and ultimately flipped right before signing day. I'm excited to finish out this class and get up there with the guys."
