Former Rivals100 DE done with football

Some things are just not meant to be and that includes further football for Canton Kaumatule. Ranked as the No. 5 SDE in the nation for the Class of 2015, the 6-foot-7, 295-pound sophomore was never able to overcome a series of injuries and today the team announced his medical retirement.

After arriving at Oregon as an early enrollee in 2015 the sophomore defensive tackle had a career best of two tackles twice, against Georgia State in 2015 and against Washington this season.

Kaumatule left Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou as one of the blue-chip prospects from the Class of 2015, a member of the prestigious Rivals100 ranked as the No. 40 overall prospect in the country.

For a 2016 Oregon football team already having struggles up front with their defense this should not change much as Kaumatule has seen few game reps this season. This permanent medical retirement will open a scholarship that will be available to the football program immediately although Kaumatule will remain on scholarship at the University of Oregon.
