Quarterback makes it official

"Yes, he committed to Oregon yesterday," coach Eric Kurle said about his star quarterback Johnny DuRocher. "He called coach Bellotti yesterday and verbally committed to him."

Johnny DuRocher was not without other offers to compare with his Oregon scholarship offer.

"He got offered by Colorado, Oregon State, Arizona," coach Kurle said. "He had about eight offers. He is a Div. 1 football player. He is an outstanding football player."

DuRocher has the type of leadership qualities that the Oregon program is seeking.

"He has lead us to the finals in his sophomore year and last year we lost in the semi-finals, so he has been a good leader," coach Kurle said. "He is 6-foot-4, and 210 pounds. He is athletic and has a real strong arm."

Johnny DuRocher had another spectacular year last season. His coach did not have his exact statistics from his junior year, but a person can comprehend by what was given that he has an accurate arm too.

"It was in the News-Tribune, but I think it was threw for 2,400 yards, 24 touchdowns and like four interceptions," the coach said. "He is pretty accurate and makes good decisions. I think he threw for like 53 percent (completion ratio)."

DuRocher has given his decision a lot of thought and deliberation. It came down to the comfort level and other considerations.

"Well, he felt comfortable. He has been down there for their football camp. Plus having his family go down there to watch him play. He loved the facilities and coaches down there. He felt most comfortable there and no one else jumped out. Stanford was pretty close, but he felt it was close enough, but still far enough away. They have a great program and they are always in the top 10."

A consistent performer, DuRocher threw for 2,100 yards, 20 touchdowns and five picks as a sophomore before his outstanding junior year.
