The Oregon Ducks had immense recruiting success during the 2019 early signing period with their best-ever national recruiting ranking. 22 student-athletes signed letters-of-intent with the football program leaving a small handful of additional signees over the next month.
Duck Sports Authority has been counting down the top recruiters of the early cycle and thus far have honored Keith Heyward, Marcus Arroyo and Michael Johnson. Today we take a look at linebackers coach Cort Dennison who made enormous contributions on this year's recruiting trail.
As it turns out, Oregon linebackers coach Cort Dennison will end his career as a Duck after one season. That is because Louisville hired him as the co-defensive coordinator and will move to Kentucky very soon.
That does not take away from his off-field accomplishments on the recruiting front. One of his biggest scores may have been the Deerfield Beach two-fer, with linebacker Ge'mon Eaford as the first from his school the Ducks were interested in, then his teammate defensive end Brandon Dorlus who Dennison scouted and was added to the target list towards the end of the cycle.
In all, Dennison was the primary recruiter for five defensive prospects, plus interestingly, Washington QB Cale Millen.
As is generally the case with recruiting at Oregon under Cristobal, Dennison did not work alone. For Dorlus and Ma'ae he teamed up with Joe Salave'a, for Dru Mathis it was Michael Johnson. Wtih Townsend and Eaford he handled the recruiting duties mostly solo.
The Ducks will be hiring a new linebackers coach heading into 2019, and they can only hope that he has the results off the field as his predecessor.
