On Thursday we began our countdown of the top five Oregon recruiters of the early signing period for the Class of 2019. Co-defensive coordinator Keith Heyward was featured in a testimony to the depth of Duck assistant coaches with excellent recruiting results. It took a Hatfield-Dowling Complex full of staff members to assemble what is currently ranked as the No. 7 class in the nation.
Marcus Arroyo wears many hats for the Oregon football team. He is the Assistant Head Coach, the Offensive Coordinator the quarterbacks/tight ends position coach.
When he is not doing those things he is recruiting, and his results for the early signing period speak for themselves.
Analysis
The list of successful recruitments Arroyo put together in the early cycle was impressive. He was one of the top two coaches involved with three of the four wide receivers and led the recruitment for the quarterback and tight end.
The one public miss of his main targets was Arjei Henderson, who committed the one summer of the Taggart era, and decommitted after Taggart left. Oklahoma has had trouble pinning Henderson down as well and he remains uncommitted.
Geographically Arroyo spent most of his time on the West Coast but did see all parts of the United States during this cycle.
Partnerships
Arroyo collaborated with wide receivers coach Michael Johnson a great deal this cycle, as would be expected. The two teamed up as the two primary recruiters for Josh Delgado, Mycah Pittman and JR Waters.
With Patrick Herbert and Cale Millen he spearheaded the recruitment. Even so, with these two prospects and all of Oregon’s targets, the entire staff participated in their recruitment at some level.
