Will Ducks enter reopened Tyjon Lindsey sweepstakes?

When Duck Sports Authority scouted Tyjon Lyndsey at the Opening, it was not love at first sight. At 5-foot-9, 175-pounds, the Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman athlete did not pass the immediate ‘eyeball test’ frame-wise compared to the other elite prospects competing in that event. Sure he was solidly built but his length is not ideal for the current college wide receiver prototype.

For Lyndsey however, it is all about what he can do on the field. With great balance and explosiveness, the nation’s No. 7 ranked wide receiver gets open and catches the football, traits highly desired by college coaches. His change of direction is difficult for defenders to shadow and his acceleration is a difference-maker. And he plays his position with the mentality of a linebacker.

As he neared his decision last summer, the Ducks were an entirely different football staff. Under Helfrich, the Ducks loved Lindsey and were thought to be in his top three when he chose the Buckeyes in August.

But on Tuesday he opened his recruitment back up.

Duck Sports Authority spoke with Lindsey several times prior to his Ohio State commitment and Oregon was a serious contender.

The question is: Will Coach Taggart and new WR coach Jimmie Dougherty try to regain recruiting position with the Rivals100 prospect?

That answer will come soon enough as signing day is three short weeks away and the NCAA football ‘contact period’ for the Class of 2017 opens at midnight tonight.

Buckle up.
