Oregon LB commit: As of now I am recruiting until Wednesday

He is ranked as one of the Top 50 running back prospects in the nation but offense is not the side of the ball he will start his college career on. Mountain View (Calif.) St. Francis athlete Cyrus Habibi-Likio will arrive in Eugene in June as a defender, and at 6-foot-1, 200-pound, has the versatility to play linebacker, safety, or a combination of the two.

For the three-star rated prospect, it was love at first sight when he arrived in Eugene.

“I love their new coaching staff,” said Habibi-Likio. It is a great football program with a strong alumni base. It's a safe community for my family. I knew it was the place when I got there.”

And speaking of family, his was certainly on board with his choice.

“My parents love Oregon,” said Habibi-Likio. “My uncle was supposed to be a Duck too. My family loves it.”

The Ducks beat out a long list of suitors for his services but it came down to five.

“Oregon, Utah, Cal, USC, and Ole Miss,” made up his final group.

But back to the subject of position. Habibi-Likio chose the Ducks knowing they would start him out on defense and he said he is happy to do so if it is best for the team. But at the same time, the idea of being a red zone ball-carrier or something along those lines is very appealing.

“I will be a program guy, someone who helps Oregon become better,” said Habibi-Likio. “Almost like they used to be but better. I plan to play both sides. I'd love to play both ways.”

And how will he convince Taggart and company to give him that chance?

“I'll show them in practice and my study habits for film.”

When he committed to Oregon last Thursday, he began a run of four straight days for Coach Taggart and the Ducks with a commitment. With signing day two short days away and several Oregon slots available, he will take on a temporary, helpful role.

“As of now I am recruiting till Wednesday!”
