HARVEY, La. — What a week it was for Jaylon Reed. In a few days late last week, Olive Branch (Miss.) cornerback added offers from Mississippi State, Oregon and Tennessee. The 6-foot-1, 165 pound junior is one of the top prospects in the Magnolia State and he is really starting to see his recruitment pick up.
He knew he would get offers, but he did not expect them to come this fast, this soon.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: "It was a little overwhelming last week," said Reed. "I did not expect them to come that fast, but once one came, the others followed. It just happened real quick and it was pretty exciting.
"I was just up at Mississippi State for their Junior Day not that long ago and I like it up there. They have tradition where they treat their guys like family and I have seen that. I really like how they treated me when I was there and that is what stands out most to me.
"I was up at Tennessee last summer with my 7v7 team, so I have been there once and I have watched them on T.V. I like coach G (Robert Gillespie, running backs) a lot. He is from Mississippi, he is real down to earth and he is a coach I communicate well with.
"I do not know much about Oregon yet, but I want to get up there soon. I played against one of their players, Dillon Mitchell, and I have talked to him, but I want to visit and see what it is like. I do like how they play.
"I am still pretty open right now, but some of the schools I like are South Carolina, Tennessee, Oregon, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Memphis and Mississippi State."
RIVALS REACTION: Reed is a cornerback with good length and his recruitment has really taken off. Another SEC offer he has is South Carolina and he plans to visit Columbia (S.C.) soon. LSU is recruiting him as well and he will be in Baton Rouge (La.) this weekend. Oregon and Tennessee are two other schools he'd like visit as soon as possible. Keep an eye on Ole Miss as well, an in-state school that he has visited, and the Rebels are high on his list.
