Dan Lanning recorded his first career victory over a ranked team in a trench-dominating effort, 41-20 against BYU on Saturday.

The Ducks continued to show positive improvements on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and got an important win heading into Pac-12 play.

Oregon's offense came out firing for the second straight week, scoring on its first six possessions, the second of which was the only field goal among the bunch. A continually improving defense didn't allow BYU to break into double-digit scoring until the fourth quarter.

Even though Oregon took its foot off the pedal a bit toward the end, resulting in the 41-20 final line, the Ducks were dominant when it mattered. Just as with the bad moments, however, they will need to get over this big win and get focused on a strong looking Washington State team in a difficult environment in Pullman, Wash.

We’ll circle back to WSU later this week, but for now, a recap of the social media action from this weekend.

Not quite as effective without the night game, but Oregon busted out the Nightmare Green combo and asked the fans to wear black to support the team. Oregon does ask the fans to wear a color every game, so it isn't as effective as the planned efforts you might see at say, Penn State.

Capturing a few of those moments of the pre-game walk, Oregon has one of the most beautiful and serene (and short) walks from the locker room to the stadium. Although the game was reported as a sell out, there were definitely some open seats during the game and a strong turn out by BYU fans at the stadium. Oregon managed to keep the BYU fans quiet for most of the afternoon.

Oregon has the 4-yard hashes across the field yellow in memory of Spencer Webb. BYU took the opportunity pre-game to lay a bouquet of flowers as a tribute to him. Former teammate Kingsley Suamataia took it an extra step when he ran out on the field with a huge flag with the Oregon O and Spencer's No. 18 on it. Suamataia too lost a brother, and his former teammates were there to embrace him after the game.

The pre-game hype video, for those at home, and in this case, for those that didn’t get to really see it. Oregon seems to have fixed the video issues this week, but it wasn't quite on top of the game with replays, which may have had to do with Fox broadcasting the game.

Oregon took very little time to get things going. After giving up a big first play of the game, the defense held BYU four consecutive plays to force a turnover on downs. The offense responded with a 64-yard drive, capped off by a Bo Nix keeper. Solid read by Nix on the play, but some poor tackling from BYU didn't hurt. (7-0, Ducks)

Oregon forced a three-and-out but was held to only a field goal after that. BYU replied with its only TD of the first three quarters, but Oregon had an answer for that. Highlighted by this nearly 50-yard bomb to Troy Franklin, the Ducks went 75-yards in eight plays (17-7, Ducks).

BYU was able to move the ball 52 yards down the field, but its embattled kicker once again missed a shot, this time from 38 yards out. Oregon then went on a bullying drive covering 13 plays (10 runs), 79 yards, and 5:33 off the clock. Within the drive, the Ducks converted fourth down twice. This was also a perfectly executed wearing down of the clock as Oregon left only 24 seconds, which basically forced BYU to take it into half. This was a major boost heading into halftime as Oregon got the ball back after the break. (24-7, Ducks)

Oregon wasted no effort, going 75 yards in nine plays and only seeing third down once during the drive. Nix ran for his third touchdown of the day on the only third down in the drive, putting Oregon into a dominating position. (31-7, Ducks)

BYU, now in desperation mode, went for fourth-and-1 from its own 36 and was stopped behind the line of scrimmage. Oregon answered with a four-play 35-yard drive, capped off by Terrance Ferguson's second TD of the day. That's back-to-back weeks that Ferguson racks up two TDs, and he now leads all FBS TEs. (38-7, Ducks)

BYU was able to put a couple TDs on the board in the fourth quarter, including a failed two-point attempt, so Oregon brought Nix back in to close things out with a clock-grinding 12-play, 8:23 drive. (41-20, Ducks)

It was a special day for Bo Nix and the running back tandem of Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington. The backs combined for 163 yards on 27 carries and Bo Nix contributed on 5 TDs (same as last week), including 3 on the ground.

An important streak was maintained on Saturday as the Ducks extended their home win streak (21) and non-conference win streak (30). Auzten continues to be one of the toughest places to play, but next week Oregon will have to show what it has on the road, as the Ducks travel out to Pullman for a 1 p.m. kickoff Saturday.

After the game, Dan Lanning poked fun at the ESPN Game Day pickers, who appeared to not pick Oregon by letting Luke Combs (the guest picker) know he is welcome in Eugene any time. ESPN did make a mistake on the graphics, as Kirk Herbstreit also picked Oregon, so I'm guessing he'd be welcome too. All jokes aside, Oregon loves hosting ESPN Game Day, they've done so 10 times and appeared another 17 times as visitor or at a neutral site.
